The Overview

Speak Your Truth Today (SYTT) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit amplifying the voices of those impacted by domestic violence and providing education and resources that foster community, self-sufficiency, and overall well-being. Facilitating one of the largest, gender-inclusive domestic violence support groups on Facebook, SYTT has helped about 3 people each week leave abusive relationships.

I founded SYTT after my personal post went viral in February of 2019. After becoming an official nonprofit, we needed to update our website.

The Problem

The Facebook support group gathered tons of resources. We learned how to walk with survivors on their entire journeys out of abuse, and the common threads and hurdles they faced while doing so. Most domestic violence organizations' websites explained what they do and are typically more catered towards donors for funding, rather than being user-friendly for survivors to understand what they are going through and seek help.

After gaining 501(c)3 status, we needed to take a major look at our website, increase its user-experience, include our nonprofit programs, and create a clearer CTA to join our support group.

The Solution

Over six months and 100+ hours of dedicated work, we developed a comprehensive website specifically addressing the four key stages of a survivor's journey: 1) recognizing abuse, 2) planning for safety and accessing resources, 3) healing and recovery, and 4) supporting others. To enhance user experience, we condensed much of the information into accordion folds and implemented clear calls to action throughout.

We are now getting nearly 4K unique users, with 250+ users taking our abuse quiz and 60+ users following through to join our Facebook support group each month.
